Thursday 2nd May

1pm:  Welcome to Tartu and Opening Ceremony

1.30pm: Educational Innovation and Sustainability by Professor Margus PedasteMargus

Innovation refers to new or changed ideas that are not only developed but also applied in practice. Changes are needed when our goals change or the environment changes. In the year 2024 we can see that the whole world is changing – we are facing challenges related to sustainable development in a technologically advanced environment. The World Economic Forum has also indicated that we should revise our goals – we have to prepare youth for problem-solving, self-management, working with people, and technology use and development. The United Nations has defined 17 sustainable development goals that should also guide educational innovation. Thus, we have to consider what changes we need in education, what innovation we need in education. Firstly, this keynote focuses on analysing changes in our environment and defining future skills. Secondly, we discuss what kind of educational innovation is required to ensure that we are able to meet the expectations indicated by the World Economic Forum and the United Nations.
